About the Role:
Nextgen Biologics in Alachua, FL, is seeking a dedicated, passionate Animal Care Technician I to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge medical technology that can be life-saving while providing exceptional care for animals in a dynamic lab environment.



Responsibilities:
  • Provide daily husbandry care for aquatic animals, including feeding and water maintenance, along with documentation
  • Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any concerns to supervising staff
  • Maintain clean and sanitary animal housing areas in compliance with facility standards
  • Assist staff with animal handling and basic procedural support
  • Accurately document animal care activities, observations, and inventory records
  • Ensure compliance with IACUC protocols, USDA regulations, and institutional animal care guidelines
  • Perform routine facility maintenance tasks including cage washing and equipment sanitation
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher preferred with coursework in biology or animal science
  • 1 year of animal science experience or ALAT certification preferred
  • Prior experience with aquaculture, animal care, husbandry, or laboratory settings is a plus, with the ability to handle animals safely and humanely
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn IACUC regulations and animal compliance standards
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft suite of products, ability to use measuring equipment and scales, knowledge of water chemistry principles
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
