Position Description
The Metro Nashville Public Health Department (MPHD) seeks a dynamic and experienced Field Supervisor to provide leadership within our Metro Animal Care and Control program. This position is a first-line supervisor, responsible for the effective supervision and administration of the employees who operate the shelter's Animal Control services. Responsibilities include: staff supervision - prioritizing and assigning work and related activities; budgeting and financial transactions, report/record-keeping, employee relations and performance management. Because this supervisory position is required to occasionally step in to fill the shift of a front-line employee, many of the duties align with those required of an Animal Control Officer 1.

Education and Experience
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply, however at the present time MPHD is not sponsoring individuals through any of the US Government's employment-based immigration programs.
Licensure:
Humanely restrains an animal.
Uses protective clothing or gear.
Possess normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, and speaking abilities.
May risk exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals, and animals/wildlife, including exposure to animal bites, scratches, and diseases such as Rabies, Ringworm, Lyme disease and Zoonosis.
Working Environment/Physical Demands
Requires sedentary work that involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time, exerting up to 40 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, and routine keyboard operations.

Must receive pre-exposure rabies vaccinations.
May risk exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals, and animals/wildlife, including exposure to animal bites, scratches, and diseases such as Rabies, Ringworm, Lyme disease and Zoonosis.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, Biology, or a related field.
As of date of hire, must have satisfactorily completed NACA I and II, or NACHO A and B, or the equivalent in experience/education.
As of date of hire, must have satisfactorily completed NACA I and II, or NACHO A and B, or the equivalent, including sufficient years of field experience combined with continuing education certifications earned from attending seminars on animal shelter, care or control.
Must have and be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic animal care standards, including safe animal handling procedures for domestic and wild animals.
Must have and be able to demonstrate knowledge of proper use, secure storage, and disposal of lethal chemicals, syringes and related equipment.
