    Description

    • As needed, interprets/transliterates for the Deaf campus community and visitors to provide access for classroom/education related meetings, programs, or activities. Settings include classrooms, one-on-one or group meetings for students, college sponsored events or presentations, campus-wide events such as Orientation, Commencement, etc.
    • Requests may include hours during evenings and weekends and non-campus locations.
    • Performs independent needs assessment regarding cultural and language variables to determine the most appropriate interpreting methods and strategies to employ.
    • Follows and maintains strict confidentiality in all interactions following Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Ethics standards.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of and skill with various methods of expressive and voice interpreting/transliterating.
    • Knowledge of the ethical standards set forth by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Incorporated.
    • Knowledge of standard practices in interpreting/transliterating at the postsecondary level.
    • Knowledge of cultural aspects of deafness and cross-cultural mediation.
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
