Anatomic Pathology Lab Assistant | Leesburg Hospital | PRN

Under general supervision of the Laboratory Director, Pathologist, and Histology Manager, the Anatomic Pathology Assistant performs, but is not limited to: computer accessioning of surgical, cytology, and flow cytometry specimens, possesses exceptional customer service skills with outside physicians’ offices and medical staff, faxes and scans documents, schedules frozen section procedures, fills supply orders for AP clients, orders specimen pick-ups with lab couriers, has medical terminology knowledge, familiarity with ICD-9/10 and CPT codes, performs Cytology processing, when needed. Exhibits exceptional customer service skills with outside offices and medical staff.

Responsibilities:

1. Position Performance Evaluation Completion
2. Monitors, maintains AP supply orders
3. Competent in accessioning specimens in Cerner, Star, Copia
4. Exhibits exceptional customer service skills with outside offices and medical staff
5. Faxes/ scans documents
6. Schedules frozen section procedures
7. Knows how to do Send-Out specimens
8. Review Laboratory policies that pertain to job
9. Knowledge of medical terminology
10. Orders specimen pick-ups through lab couriers
11. Familiarity with ICD-10 codes, CPT codes
12. Performs Cytology processing, when needed
13. Completes assigned work as scheduled in allotted time frame
14. Attends Staff Meetings
15. Required competencies and mandatory education as assigned
16. Demonstrates behavior standards that enhance positive interactions with physicians, and peers

Qualifications:

Education

High School Diploma/GED

 

Special Skills/Qualifications/Additional Training/Experience Required

• Medical Terminology, preferred.
• 1-3 years experience required.
• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
