Job Description and Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as HR liaison between HR and WCAB and as Attendance Reporting Officer.
  • Managing the WCAB's physical and digital law library and online attorney staff research tools.
  • Maintaining an expense-tracking system for actual and anticipated fiscal year expenditures.
  • Monitoring, evaluating, analyzing, and making recommendations regarding continuing upgrade of office automation systems and computerization for the WCAB to ensure productivity office-wide.
  • Formulating methods to compile, compute, and tabulate statistical information for the WCAB.
  • Maintaining procedures for, and managing collection of, sanctions and contempt fines imposed by workers' compensation judges payable to the WCAB.
  • Administratively, coordinating adoption, amendment or rescission of the WCAB Rules of Practice and Procedure.
  • Acting as the WCAB's ergonomics coordinator and web liaison.
  • Coordinating office moves and clean ups.

Working Conditions

This office is located at: 455 Golden Gate Ave, Suite 9328, San Francisco CA 94102.

This is a full-time position at the Reconsideration Unit, located in an office environment in the 14-story State office building in San Francisco, California. This unit is currently located on the 9th floor. The incumbent works in a cubicle in close proximity to others. The position requires being in a stationary position for long periods of time and work extensively on computers, scanners, copiers, telephones, faxes, and/or shredders as necessary for processing work, drafting email communication, and other purposes. Department Information

The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927. Its mission is to improve working conditions for California's wage earners and to advance opportunities for profitable employment in California. DIR administers and enforces laws governing wages, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, and medical care and other benefits for injured workers.

The Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) is the statewide administrative law court of appeal for workers' compensation cases and decides appeals filed by aggrieved parties and their attorneys from decisions issued by workers' compensation judges (WCJs) throughout California. The staff for the WCAB play a critical role in the WCAB's day-to-day functioning.

The Appeals Board provides a vital role in the workers' compensation system, which impacts injured workers and employers statewide. State of California health coverage and other benefits are comprehensive and compare favorably to the private sector.
