Operational Management

  • Oversee daily operations of the Ambulatory Surgery Unit, including Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), Surgical Navigation, pre-operative, and post-anesthesia care services.
  • Ensure PAT processes are completed timely and accurately, including preoperative assessments, testing, patient education, and coordination of surgical clearances.
  • Provide oversight and direction for Surgical Navigator activities to ensure patients receive comprehensive education, care coordination, and support throughout the surgical journey.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, primary care providers, and specialists to facilitate surgical readiness and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Monitor patient volumes, staffing needs, and departmental productivity across ASU, PAT, and Surgical Navigation services.
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges within the perioperative continuum.
  • Ensure availability of equipment, supplies, and resources necessary for safe and efficient patient care.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Partner with physicians, anesthesia providers, PAT staff, Surgical Navigators, nursing staff, and ancillary departments to improve patient access and surgical readiness.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary communication to ensure seamless coordination throughout the perioperative continuum.
  • Support patient-centered initiatives that improve patient satisfaction, reduce surgical cancellations, and enhance care coordination.

Performance Improvement

  • Monitor and improve departmental metrics including:
    • Patient satisfaction scores
    • Surgical cancellation rates
    • PAT completion rates
    • Surgical readiness metrics
    • Patient throughput
    • Length of stay
    • Staffing productivity
    • Infection prevention measures
    • Regulatory compliance indicators
    • Employee engagement and retention

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licensure and Certification

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • PALS certification preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years of perioperative, ambulatory surgery, PACU, or related clinical nursing experience.
  • Minimum of two years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and staff development preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of ambulatory surgery, preoperative, and post-anesthesia care standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, quality improvement, and performance management.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of registered nurses, Surgical Navigator(s), patient care assistants, unit clerks, and other assigned personnel within the Ambulatory Surgery Unit and Pre-Admission Testing services. Responsible for performance management, competency validation, scheduling, staff development, and operational oversight of ASU, PAT, and Surgical Navigation personnel.
