Job Description:
Title: School Health Assistant
Requirements, Qualifications, & Skills
High school graduate or equivalent degree with a minimum of 3 years of full time employment in the health field and/or experience working with school aged children OR an Associates degree or higher from a college or university
Preferred: Work and/or education in fields of education, health or social work and/or experience working with school-aged children
Current Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with discretion, and maintain high degree of professionalism and confidentiality
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Ability to take direction well, work both independently and as part of a team
Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Valid CT Drivers license
Must have own transportation
Bilingual preferred
Ability to work effectively with children
Must pass the required New Haven Public Schools background checks
(criminal and DCF history )
Job Goal:
The primary function of the School Health Assistant role is to serve as an integral member of the school health services team. Assist with school based health initiatives, programs, and services to ensure students receive needed health services, required screenings. Facilitate data entry and collaborate with all school health staff.
REPORTS TO: Health and Wellness Department
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Established by the New Haven Board of Education
EVALUATION: Performance evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Educations policy of evaluation of personnel.
UNION AFFILIATION: 884 R1 S1 Grant funded-10 months ($30,580)
