Position: Job Coach (Full Time)

Position Available: SY 26-27

School: Middlesex Transition Academy (on the Wesleyan University Campus)

Reports to: MTA Program Coordinator/Director of Student Services and Special Education

Job Description: The Middlesex Transition Academy Job Coaches provide support and training for special education students at the Middlesex Transition Academy at Wesleyan University. The successful candidate must possess the ability to work with students with disabilities in community and vocational settings. The successful candidate must also have strong communication and organizational skills, demonstrate flexibility and work well as a team member.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transport students to and from job sites as assigned by Program Coordinator after obtaining Public Passenger Endorsement from DMV
  • Follow weekly supervision schedule to assigned job sites/students
  • Assist students in taking initiative to complete assigned work tasks, ask questions of co-workers and employers when necessary, and request additional duties when assigned tasks are complete
  • Gather and maintain and chart data about performance and behavior of individual students and confer with the teachers about progress and performance
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment at the workplace (report to MTA teachers and Coordinator any unsafe or unhealthy work situations)
  • Develop strategies with teachers to assist students to acquire positive social behavior and work habits and eliminate interfering behaviors
  • Confer with teachers and Program Coordinator about behaviors observed in the workplace
  • Follow instructions and use problem-solving skills that will enable the student to be successful in the workplace
  • Possess situational reasoning - exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity required on the joh with student
  • Work effectively and maintain relationships with students, school personnel and employers
  • Possess verbal aptitude - must be able to provide a variety of descriptive data and information
  • Assist teachers at the MTA with various duties at the Academy when not working directly with students in the community
