Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Assistant Director of Finance and Operations plays a critical role in assisting in the management of the financial health and operational integrity of the Berlin Public Schools. Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Operations, this position is responsible for performing professional accounting work, maintaining financial records, assisting with budget preparation, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing public school finance. Provides leadership and oversight to the department when the Director is unavailable
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field preferred .
Certifications: Eligible for Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) 085 certification (or immediate eligibility to obtain) preferred; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is a plus.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in modern ERP/financial software (e.g., Tyler School ERP-Pro, PowerSchool, MySchoolBucks) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of GASB standards, fund accounting, and state/federal education grant regulations.
Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse staff in a cooperative manner.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a non-affiliated full-time 52-week, 40 hour per week position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Salary range $85,000-95,000 dependent on education and experience.
