Akron General - Medical Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:

A Medical Assistant acts as a liaison between patients and the medical staff ensuring that patients receive consistent, high-quality care. MAs provide basic patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring vital signs, and supporting overall patient well-being under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with the patient admission, discharge, and transfer processes.
• Collect patient information including family medical histories.
• Take patients’ vital signs such as blood pressure and heart rate.
• Help patients dress/undress or use the bathroom as needed.
• Turn or reposition patients who are in a bed.
• Assist patients with food and/or hydration.
• Assist with patient nutritional needs.
• Clean rooms, make beds and stock supplies in all areas.
• Assist room turnovers in all areas.
• Provide ice packs as needed.
• Perform basic medical tasks including wound care and catheter care.
• Assist with patient transfers and discharges.
• Monitor patients for signs of illness or infection.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and/or other Center functions.
• Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of patient care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team to ensure quality care.
• Maintain outdates and supplies in anesthesia workroom and anesthesia carts in the OR.
• Follow the Center’s exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
• Able to problem solve in the presence of stressful situations/work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program (per State requirements)
• BLS certification (as required by individual ASC policy)

PREFERRED:

• ASC experience
• Minimum one year MA experience
