Summary
Leads and participates in enforcing laws on airport property and in providing for safety for the public and airport operations.
Essential Functions
- Maintain contact with officers to provide advice or assistance, and to respond to more difficult situations;
- Supervise recordkeeping by officers and forward reports through the chain of command;
- Assist Airport Police Lieutenant in compiling data and statistics on police operations;
- Project a positive role model and utilize leadership skills in dealing with officers;
- Serve as first-line supervisor in the chain of command;
- Receive orders from superiors and provide direction to subordinate officers;
- Review and approve reports in the absence of the Airport Police Lieutenant, or as needed. Submit reports through the chain of command for final approval;
- Approve days off requested by officers;
- Perform evaluations of officers performance and initiate disciplinary action for violations of department, city, state, or federal policies or laws;
- Resolve complaints from the public or from officers in a professional manner;
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three to five years of responsible experience as a law enforcement officer; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Certified Peace Officer;
Texas Drivers License.
Physical Exam Required
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- The principles of modern police administration;
- Accepted practices and procedures of police science;
- Aviation Department, City, federal, and state laws, policies, and procedures.
Ability to:
- Instruct and advise subordinates in all pertinent phases of law enforcement and FAA security procedures;
- Plan, assign, and coordinate the work of a number of subordinate officers;
- Establish and maintain effective public relations;
- Communicate effectively with others;
- Provide general automotive assistance to stranded motorists;
- Receive orders from superiors and give direction to subordinate officers;
- Review and approve reports.
Physical Requirements:
Maintain the ability to:
- Stand and walk during the shift.
- Frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds;
- Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds;
- Push and pull objects;
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward a the waist;
- Place arms above, at, and below shoulder height;
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
