Air Quality Project Manager

At WSP, we are driven by inspiring future-ready pioneers to innovate. We are seeking an experienced Air Quality Project Manager to join our growing Environmental Team. We welcome applications from Environmental Engineers, Environmental Scientists, Meteorologists, and other qualified environmental professionals with experience in air quality permitting, compliance, and atmospheric modeling.

This role is preferably based in our Columbus, Ohio office; however, qualified candidates may be located in any WSP office across the United States. The successful candidate will support industrial and infrastructure clients across Texas and throughout the U.S., delivering innovative solutions related to air permitting, regulatory compliance, and air dispersion modeling.

Your Impact

• Lead complex air quality permitting, compliance, and modeling projects for industrial and energy sector clients nationwide.
• Manage project delivery, including scope development, budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, resource allocation, quality assurance, and risk management.
• Serve as a senior technical reviewer and subject matter expert for air quality analyses, emissions inventories, regulatory assessments, and permit applications.
• Provide strategic guidance on NSR, PSD, Title V, state permitting programs, emissions regulations, and emerging regulatory requirements.
• Act as the primary client relationship manager for key accounts, ensuring exceptional service and long-term partnerships.
• Lead business development efforts, including client engagement, proposal development, strategic pursuits, and expansion of existing client relationships.
• Collaborate with national and regional leadership to support practice growth initiatives and market expansion.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers, scientists, meteorologists, and project managers through technical guidance and leadership.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across WSP business lines to deliver integrated environmental and engineering solutions.
• Represent WSP before regulatory agencies, industry organizations, and professional associations.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor''s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in air quality permitting, air dispersion modeling, regulatory compliance, and environmental consulting.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex projects and client relationships with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and profitability.
• Strong expertise in PSD, NSR, Title V permitting, emissions inventories, and regulatory compliance evaluations.
• Advanced experience using AERMOD and other air quality modeling platforms such as CALPUFF.
• Extensive experience working with environmental regulatory agencies.
• Proven success leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring technical staff.
• Strong business development, proposal preparation, and client relationship management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree is preferred.
• Essential professional licensure/certification.
• Advanced experience in atmospheric science, meteorological analysis, or air quality modeling.
• Experience with AERMOD, CALPUFF, and other regulatory modeling platforms.
• Experience working with Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, or Texas environmental regulatory agencies.
• Utility, power, refining, chemical manufacturing, oil and gas, data center, or industrial permitting experience.
