  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Technical school training or three (3) years of HVAC employment/field experience.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC controls, electrical systems, and refrigeration principles.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control-related equipment issues.
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions and maintenance procedures.
  • Available and willing to work after-hours on-call duty, on a rotating basis with other shop personnel
  • Currently hold or have the ability to obtain a drivers license within 90 days of employment?

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a university, government, or large institutional environment.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, or Schneider Electric.
  • Additional certifications such as HVAC Excellence, NATE, or trade licenses.
  • Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices.

Job Description

The University is seeking a skilled and motivated HVAC Technician II to join our Facilities Services team. This mid-level position is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems across academic buildings, laboratories, residence halls, athletic facilities, and administrative spaces.

Job Duties

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues involving chillers, boilers, pumps, air handlers, VAV systems, cooling towers, and building automation systems (BAS).
  • Install, replace, and repair HVAC equipment, motors, controls, thermostats, and related components.
  • Monitor and adjust building environmental systems to maintain occupant comfort and operational efficiency.
  • Respond to service requests and emergency maintenance calls in a timely manner.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment condition.
  • Assist with campus energy conservation initiatives and sustainability programs.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable safety regulations, codes, and University policies.
  • Collaborate with other Facilities Services personnel, contractors, and campus stakeholders.
