AI/ML Project Manager
Location: 100% Remote, USA (Minnesota residents preferred)
Engagement: Contract (W2 or 1099 preferred; C2C accepted)
Experience: 8-12 years total, including recent AI/ML program delivery

About the role
Our client, a technology firm delivering data and AI solutions for enterprise customers, is looking for a Project Manager to lead AI/ML initiatives from planning through production. You will coordinate data scientists, ML engineers, data engineers and business stakeholders, keep model development, data pipelines and deployment on track, and make delivery status clear to leadership.
Responsibilities
- Plan and run AI/ML projects end to end: scope, milestones, dependencies, risks and delivery.
- Coordinate data science, ML engineering, data engineering and product teams through the model lifecycle (data preparation, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring).
- Run Agile ceremonies and manage backlogs in Jira; keep documentation current in Confluence.
- Track model and data milestones, MLOps readiness and production rollout; remove blockers.
- Report status, risks and decisions to stakeholders; manage scope and expectations.
- Work with security, cloud and platform teams on environment, data access and compliance needs.
Required
- 8-12 years of IT project management, with at least 3 years managing AI/ML or data science projects delivered to production.
- Working understanding of the ML lifecycle and MLOps (for example SageMaker, Azure ML, Vertex AI, Databricks or MLflow).
- Agile/Scrum delivery with Jira and Confluence.
- Experience coordinating data scientists, ML engineers and data engineers.
- Strong written and verbal communication with technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred
- PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM or SAFe certification.
- Generative AI / LLM project experience (RAG, chatbots, model evaluation).
- Cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP).
- Located in Minnesota.
