Job Description:
The AI Developer / AI-Assisted Data Engineer / Data Modernization Engineer will support a large-scale pilot data modernization initiative leveraging AI-assisted development methodologies to transform decentralized campus reporting assets into governed, reusable enterprise data products within Microsoft Fabric. This role combines data engineering, automation, artificial intelligence, and cloud modernization practices to accelerate migration from legacy Oracle-dependent environments to a scalable modern data platform.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop automated scanning and discovery tools for Access, Excel, Power BI, SQL Server, and other reporting assets.
Identify Oracle database dependencies, reporting usage patterns, and data source relationships.
Capture, organize, and structure metadata to support AI-driven migration analysis and prioritization.
Design and implement Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers within Microsoft Fabric.
Build scalable data pipelines, ingestion frameworks, and transformation processes.
Develop reusable enterprise data products aligned with modern data platform standards.
Utilize AI-assisted development tools to generate code, automate metadata analysis, and accelerate migration activities.
Refactor legacy reporting assets and data models for Fabric-based architectures.
Update data connections, queries, and reporting models using AI-generated development approaches.
Design hybrid modernization solutions supporting Access front-end and SQL-based backend architectures.
Establish repeatable AI-assisted development workflows and migration methodologies.
Perform reconciliation and validation between Oracle REPL environments and Fabric outputs.
Validate data quality, accuracy, completeness, consistency, and performance.
Develop migration frameworks that can scale across multiple institutions and environments.
Support pilot campus modernization initiatives and future enterprise-wide implementations.
Additional Responsibilities:
Document automation tools, scripts, frameworks, and development methodologies.
Create repeatable migration playbooks and implementation standards.
Contribute to training materials and knowledge transfer activities.
Support onboarding efforts for technical teams adopting modernization frameworks.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, analysts, and campus technology teams.
Required Skills:
10%2B years of enterprise data engineering, analytics, or data architecture experience.
5%2B years of advanced SQL development experience.
5%2B years of advanced Python programming experience.
5%2B years of ETL/ELT development and data modeling experience.
3%2B years of AI-assisted software development experience using tools such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent.
3%2B years of hands-on PySpark development experience.
3%2B years of experience building and optimizing large-scale transformations in Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse environments.
Strong experience with Microsoft Fabric and modern cloud data platforms.
Experience modernizing legacy reporting and analytics environments.
Expertise in metadata-driven development and data governance practices.
Strong understanding of enterprise-scale data architecture principles.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with higher education data environments.
Experience with Oracle database platforms and migrations.
Experience with Power BI enterprise reporting solutions.
Knowledge of data governance, data cataloging, and metadata management.
