Guntersville City Schools Job Description

Position Title: After School Program Aide

Location: Guntersville Elementary School

Pay Type: Hourly - Non-Exempt; Retirement: RSA (if applicable)

Reports To: Chief Academic Officer/After School Program Director

Contract Work Year: 177 Days

Job Goals:

  • To assist certified instructors and program staff in providing a safe, engaging, and productive after-school learning environment.

  • To support student achievement, enrichment activities, and positive behavior development.

  • To provide meaningful work-based learning opportunities for qualified Guntersville High School students interested in careers in education, child development, or related fields.

  • To serve as a positive role model for participating students while supporting the goals and objectives of the district's after-school program.

Key Duties:

  • Supervise students during activities and transitions

  • Assist with tutoring and enrichment activities

  • Monitor attendance

  • Prepare instructional materials

  • Assist with snack distribution and dismissal procedures

  • Support student behavior expectations

  • Maintain a safe learning environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher preferred.

OR

Current student enrolled in the Guntersville High School Work-Based Learning Program, Educator in Training Program, or other Board-approved career pathway related to education, child development, or human services.

  • Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children and adults.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to follow directions, maintain confidentiality, and work collaboratively with program staff.

  • Ability to use basic technology for communication and record keeping.

  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.

  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.

  • Supports all daily operations of the after-school and summer programs.

  • Adheres to schedules, procedures, and enrichment opportunities designed to meet program goals.

  • Ensures a safe, orderly, and positive environment for students and staff.

  • Maintains class attendance records, inventories, and required documentation.

  • Engages in positive communication with parents and community partners.

  • Ensures compliance with district policies, grant requirements, and state and federal regulations.

  • Collaborates with school administrators and instructional staff to support student success.

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding student, school, workplace, and personnel matters.

  • Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.

  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.

  • Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Compensation:

Hourly rate established annually by Board approval.
