    Description

    McKinley is seeking an Affordable Housing Specialist to join our team in Taylor, MI! This role will be focused on record-keeping and compliance in HUD requirements as it pertains to leasing and Section 8. 
     
    Compensation: $23 - 25/hr plus annual bonus potential
     
    Key Responsibilities: 
    • Ensures compliance with HUD for our in-house affordable housing program (mainly Section8).
    • Handles communications for office including answering telephone lines and responding toemails as requested. Routes calls, handles routine inquiries.
    • Works with 3rd parties to complete verifications.
    • Accurate and timely completion of interim and annual recertifications, as required by HUD.
    • Executes repayment agreements for residents.
    • May complete initial move in certifications.
    • Prepares leases and manages waiting lists.
    • Determines resident eligibility and meets and communications with them directly.
    • Partners with and supports our apartment communities to ensure compliance with affordable housing rules and regulations (mainly Section 8 and tax credit).
    • Meets all compliance and HUD guidelines.
    • Maintains professional written and oral communication with all residents. Documents all resident interactions.
    • Meets all fair housing standards and McKinley standards for qualifying new applicants.

    Qualifications 
    • A minimum of 1-3 years of affordable housing or case management experience is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively and directly present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of McKinley.
    • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure,using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
    • Ability to understand safety rules and procedures.
    • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to ask relevant questions, listen to customers’ needs and provide the appropriate housing solution. Thorough knowledge and understanding of federal and state Equal Housing Opportunity laws required.
    • Overcoming objections, closing skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license as well as access to transportation to perform outreach as assigned, travel between McKinley Offices, and travel within the community.
