Aerospace Systems Engineer II
Help shape a space system from the ground up.
Want to see how your engineering decisions become real hardware? This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of a system, work directly with customers, and stay involved as requirements move into design, integration, and verification.
Our client is a small, growing aerospace company with more than 50 years of experience developing deployable systems for demanding space missions. The team works with Tier 1 primes and government agencies on systems designed for some of the harshest environments, from Earth orbit to the moon and beyond.
Why this role stands out:
- Own the requirements, not just a handoff. Help create, track, maintain, and manage system requirements, and work with the team to understand how they are carried through the design.
- Have a voice with customers. Participate directly in technical conversations, design reviews, and the engineering content that goes out the door.
- See the whole system. Work across design, test, integration, and program management instead of staying within one narrow part of the project.
- Bring more of your skills to the work. A small-company environment offers room to contribute across disciplines. Additional analysis experience, including thermal or structural work, can be valuable.
- Make a visible contribution as the company grows. Help develop the systems, practices, and teamwork that support the next stage of the business.
A Day in the Life:
You'll help transform mission needs into fully engineered space systems, balancing technical performance, schedule, and cost. Working alongside engineers, technicians, suppliers, and customers, you'll connect the requirements to the design and help the integrated product team bring spacecraft and payload systems to life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead systems engineering activities across the project lifecycle, from concept through delivery.
- Develop and maintain system requirements, CONOPS, ICDs, and risk matrices.
- Support Verification & Validation (V&V) efforts and create and maintain Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) models.
- Partner with engineers, technicians, suppliers, and customers to resolve issues and ensure requirements are met.
- Write and review test plans, procedures, and reports; analyze and post-process test data.
- Contribute to design trade studies and product development planning.
- Participate in major design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) and customer meetings.
- Support proposal writing for advanced aerospace concepts.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area by following 5S and safety guidelines.
Who You Are:
- You have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or related technical field.
- 2 - 4 years of satellite systems engineering experience with DoD, NASA, or commercial space programs.
- Hands-on ownership of creating, tracking, maintaining, and managing system requirements.
- CAMEO is strongly preferred, but not required. DOORS and other Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or requirements tracking tools are also valuable. Candidates without CAMEO or DOORS experience must demonstrate hands-on requirements tracking, maintenance, and ownership. Systems Engineers will be expected to have completed training for these tools within the 1st year.
- Hands-on experience with hardware/software interfaces, aerospace drawings, and GD&T standards.
- Experience with any 3D modeling software is acceptable. Candidates should be able to independently open, navigate, and understand 3D models. Experience with a specific 3D modeling software package and design-engineer-level proficiency are not required. Additional exposure to FEA, Matlab, Thermal Desktop, CFD (Star CCM+), or LabView is a plus.
- Applicants must be clearable (eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance). An existing Top Secret or Secret clearance is preferred, but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and passion for working in a team-driven culture.
