Description

What a day looks like

You start your shift ensuring your bench and gauges are 5S-ready. The first job traveler hits your desk: a precision sheet metal assembly bound for flight hardware. You review drawings and specs, set up the CMM, and verify dimensions, tolerances, and cosmetics using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and comparators. You log a clean first article and move on to in-process checks, collaborating with production to head off variation before it reaches final inspection.

The impact you’ll make

  • Safeguard product integrity by executing first article (AS9102), in‑process, and final inspections on precision sheet metal parts and assemblies.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and job travelers to determine inspection plans and acceptance criteria.
  • Operate and apply precision measurement tools and CMM to confirm critical dimensions and surface requirements.
  • Document everything: inspection records, nonconformance reports (NCRs), calibration entries, and quality files that support AS9100 and NADCAP systems.
  • Partner with production, engineering, and quality to resolve issues, participate in root cause analysis, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized inspection area in alignment with 5S and safety standards; handle and store gauges correctly to preserve calibration.

What you bring

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of experience inspecting parts in aerospace or precision sheet metal manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100, NADCAP, and ISO quality systems.
  • Fluency in blueprint/technical drawing reading and geometric tolerancing concepts.
  • Strength with precision metrology techniques and hand tools; clear, accurate documentation and communication.
  • Ability to spot defects, support structured problem solving, and follow through on corrective actions.

Physical & work environment

  • Stand for extended periods; bend; lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Frequent fine-motor work and close visual inspection of small components.
  • PPE required: safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection as needed.
  • Manufacturing and inspection setting with close collaboration across production, engineering, and quality.

Schedule & compensation

  • Hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday–Friday (with occasional flexibility for production needs).
  • Pay: $21–$27 per hour.
  • Benefits: shared‑cost health care, paid holidays, paid time off, and a 401(k) with company match after a waiting period.

Tools & proficiencies

  • Proficient in: AS9100 quality systems, quality control practices, precision measurement & hand metrology, precision inspection, first article inspection (FAI), and blueprint reading.
  • Regularly use: Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), measurement gauges, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and comparators.

Documentation & audits

  • Complete and maintain accurate inspection records and NCRs.
  • Support AS9100 and NADCAP documentation and participate in internal audits.
  • Generate AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.
  • Keep calibration logs current; ensure proper use and storage of gauges and instruments.
