Aerospace Engineer III-IV Specter Aerospace is seeking an Aerospace Engineer III-IV to support the design and analysis of high-speed airbreathing testbed vehicles. A successful candidate will have prior experience conducting numerical simulations of high-speed flight vehicles, supporting wind tunnel tests, and conducting detailed analyses of aerodynamic and aerothermal performance.
About Specter Aerospace Specter Aerospace is building the next generation of hypersonic vehicles for U.S. Forces and Allies. Specter is headquartered just north of Boston in Peabody, MA where it leverages its advanced propulsion technologies, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations and private funding, Specter is expanding its team in preparation for flight testing and full-scale production.
Role & Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of numerical analyses of high-speed flight systems
Provide guidance and feedback to junior engineers
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Develop aerodynamic models of high-speed airbreathing vehicles using multi-fidelity data
Lead wind tunnel test preparation and execution
Coordinate with design team to provide feedback on system design
Support trajectory optimization and analysis efforts (3DOF/6DOF)
Other duties as assigned by the company
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related discipline
3+ years of relevant full-time experience
Experience conducting high-speed numerical simulations of aerospace vehicles
Experience using any of the following CFD tools: Fun3D, US3D, Cart3D, CFD++, OVERFLOW, Vulcan
Experience using grid preparation software (Pointwise, GridPro)
Experience using scripting languages (Python, BASH, MATLAB) to aid in analysis
Experience conducting wind tunnel tests at academic, government, and private wind tunnels
Experience with low fidelity methods for aerodynamic estimation
Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)
Desired Skills
Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
7+ years of relevant full-time experience
Expert in computational analyses for high-speed airbreathing systems
Experience in finite-rate reacting flow simulations for combustion studies
Experience with automatic grid generation and process development for conceptual trade studies
Active DoD security clearance
