The Advancement Information Specialist (AIS) will be responsible for the development and design of timely, easily readable, detailed, and analytic summary reports to stakeholders and various positions within DAR. In addition, the AIS will interpret users' business needs then translate and assemble the reports to management or users of Salesforce.

The Department of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) assists Vanderbilt University in securing the resources, both human and financial, that are required to achieve its mission and goals. Key Functions and Expected Performance:

  • Utilize Snowflake SQL, Tableau, and Salesforce in designing and executing data to provide solutions for reporting requirements for DAR.

  • Meet and collaborate with DAR staff to interpret business needs and offer any additional analysis to attain the users end goals.

  • Provide ad-hoc reports and data analysis routinely and meet required deadlines.

  • Ensure a high quality of accuracy in data reported.

  • Provide technical support to users and team members of Salesforce reporting.

  • Look beyond symptoms to uncover underlying causes of problems and identify ways to resolve them.

  • Demonstrate a sense of ownership, focusing on and driving critical issues to closure.

  • Demonstrate strong understanding of the Salesforce data to identify and elevate opportunities.

  • Handle sensitive donor, parent, friend, and student information in the strictest confidence, according to departmental and institutional policies.

  • Work cooperatively with Development and Alumni Relations colleagues.

  • Maintain strong and effective relationships with Vanderbilt faculty and staff external to DAR.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory Relationships:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Executive Director of Advancement Information Services and Reporting

Work Environment:

This position will be a hybrid role based in the Nashville, TN area. The expectation is to be in the office 1 day per week or more depending on business needs.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent, is necessary

Experience and Skills:

  • 2 years of relevant data analyst experience, or the equivalent, is preferred

  • Strong SQL experience

  • Data Visualization experience, Tableau preferred

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills are necessary

  • Ability to exercise good judgment in the handling of confidential information

  • Ability to use current computer technology, such as Windows, Excel, Word, Teams, Snowflake SQL, and Salesforce

  • The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, professional team player with courteous interpersonal skills and an excellent customer service attitude

  • Candidate must also have the capacity to perform in an intellectually rigorous and complex academic environment

  • The ability to apply sound judgment in all situations is required, as are excellent organizational skills with a meticulous attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities are essential
