Advanced Practice Provider Urgent Care

Cottage Clinical Network seeks an Advanced Practice Provider for their CCN Cottage Urgent Care-Santa Maria-Skyway Drive department responsible for providing direct patient care to assigned patients within an urgent care setting. The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for providing direct patient care to assigned patients within an urgent care setting. This is a professional level position working under limited direction yet in coordination with an APP lead. Typical work scenarios require specialized knowledge, critical thinking, good judgment based upon the principles of biological, physiological, behavioral, and sociological sciences skills, as well as strong customer service skills. Internal contacts include medical staff and management throughout the clinic and health system. External contacts include patients, physicians, outside medical staff, and community resource services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs patient examinations, makes initial assessment, initiates treatment, and refers patient to appropriate center of care when applicable. Performs and provides treatment for minor acute illness.
• Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
• Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.
• Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information and promoting wellness and health maintenance.
• Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
• Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions and refers patients to specialist and to relevant patient care options as appropriate.
• Demonstrates good organizational skills in coordinating services with co-workers and other departments/services. Responds to stressful situations in a calm and rational manner, and cooperates with all to facilitate integration of services. Behaves in a professional and empathetic manner to build trust, comfort, understanding, and relationships with patients and the secondary guest(s) and in-line with Studer Principles.
• Mentors preceptors and other professional nursing staff in unit-based leadership roles. May be required to supervise ancillary staff.

Education:

• Minimum:

• PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program, as defined by the California Physician Assistant Board. Master's degree or certificate from a specialized medical training program associated with a medical school that includes classroom students and clinical experience.
• NURSE PRACTITIONER: Master of Nursing Degree. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing as defined in Section 1482, Nurse Practice Act, Business and Professional Code.

  • Minimum:
• PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: Valid California license as a Physician Assistant by the Physician Assistant Board; National certification granted after passing the PA National Certifying Exam administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants; Valid Drug Enforcement Agency license - DEA Schedule 2-5; American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers.
• NURSE PRACTITIONER: Current State of California Registered Nurse license. Current California Licensure and Certificate to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California State Board. Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Emergency Nurse Practitioner. California Furnishing License - Controlled Substances II Valid Drug Enforcement Agency license - DEA Schedule 2-5 American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers.
• 
  Technical Requirements:
  
  • Minimum: Knowledge of urgent care medical specialty. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of Epic. Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
  • Preferred: Epic EMR skills.
  
  Years of Related Work Experience:
  
  • Minimum: One (1) year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner OR a Physician Assistant in an urgent care, emergency department, or primary care setting.
  • Preferred: Two (2) years of experience as a Physician Assistant OR a Nurse Practitioner in urgent care, emergency department, or primary care; or one (1) year of Nurse Practitioner experience, plus five (5) years of emergency department RN experience.

  *Pay for non-physician positions is determined based on related years of experience and internal equity. Eligible employees may also receive additional forms of compensation, including shift differentials, on-call pay, incentive pay, and bonus opportunities, where applicable.
