Position Summary
The primary purpose of the Clinical Programs askMDAnderson Nurse is to provide transitions in care via phone and online communication for patients, family members, and caregivers (hereafter referred to as "clients") after they have visited MD Anderson Cancer Center.
This program supports clients' need for access to care during evenings and weekends and serves as a front-line customer service resource for individuals requiring clinical support.
This position requires:

The APP will maintain a clinical practice necessary to sustain licensure, certification, and appropriate clinical knowledge.
Key Functions

Responds telephonically or via online communication to clinical alerts, including:
Medication questions
Care instructions
Follow-up appointments
Post-discharge DME and home health needs
Other resource needs to prevent unnecessary readmissions or ER visits
Closes care gaps using approved resources and oncology expertise
Performs proactive assessments to prevent complications and reminds clients to complete surveys
Provides quality patient care based on diagnosis, treatment, age, development, and identified needs
Communicates effectively with:

Medical history review
Physical assessment (as applicable)
Psychosocial evaluation
Practices autonomously within scope of professional nursing

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION:
Required:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
All of the following:
Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP). Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
Basic Life Support (BLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) If working in the following departments: Pediatric - Patient Care (113100).
MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
Physician Assistant
All of the following:
PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
