The Division of Cardiac Surgery is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to function as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as a first or second assistant for adult cardiac surgery cases.
  • Perform endovein and radial harvesting.
  • Assist in the cardiac surgery clinic when not in the operating room.

Schedule

  • Variable schedule.
  • Typically 4 days/week with 10-hour shifts.
  • Rotating night, weekend, and holiday OR call.

Background Checks and Health Screenings

  • Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment.
  • All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.

Clinical Duties

  • First and second assist in cardiac surgery operations.
  • Independently perform endovein harvest.
  • Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, diagnostic evaluations, and ongoing management of patients.
  • Support the evaluation and care coordination of patients.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, and post-procedural care.
  • Coordinate diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up care.
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and adherence to UVA Health documentation and compliance standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and program development initiatives.
  • Contribute to quality improvement efforts, research, and/or educational outreach within the Department of Surgery.
  • Contribute to ongoing efforts to enhance care models that increase access and improve outcomes.
  • Participate in divisional and departmental quality improvement, patient safety, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship and education to students and new staff members.
  • Advocate for access to health care through community partnerships, outreach, and systems-based improvement initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a masters degree.

Experience

  • Department and unit specific.

Licensure

  • License or license eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia.
  • If Nurse Practitioner, license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine, or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current PALS/NRP as required, specific to position.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

Physical Demands

  • Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending, stooping, reaching overhead, and extensive and repetitive motion.
  • Repetitive motion computer keyboard use.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull 50 - 100 lbs.
  • May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.

Compensation

  • The starting base rate for this role is $124,845.00 annually.
  • Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidates qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
