The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team supporting development of the next generation of nuclear propulsion plants for the world's best Navy.
This position offers diverse work assignments with opportunities to build or strengthen your design and project management skills, drive implementation of new technology into shipboard applications, and deliver on strategic objectives in a supportive and fast paced environment. Specific duties may include:
• Design, Analysis, and testing support of new naval nuclear propulsion components and technologies
• Development of improved manufacturing processes to reduce cost and decrease development span times
• Component/system design, analysis, and support of secondary system development
• Design and analysis of reactor plant structures
• Integration of the mechanical work with the broader propulsion plant design team (including electrical, thermal, structural, performance, and nuclear engineers)
A knowledgeable staff is available for mentoring, training, and guidance for new and developing engineers. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field; or Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards, satellite, and vendor locations.
