Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Fire Department Captains.

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.

  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency incidents, drives and operates apparatus and related equipment.
  • Responds to emergency medical calls, drives ambulance and EMS staff vehicles as needed, and administers pre-hospital basic and/or advanced life support care; stabilizes and transports patients to emergency care facilities.
  • Responds to non-emergency calls and conducts other non-emergency service calls as necessary.
  • Prepares reports and maintains record of medic unit and responses, prepares routine incident reports, and maintenance records.
  • Participates in continuing training and instructional programs through individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes in emergency medical treatment.
  • Assists in maintaining and repairing emergency services equipment and cleaning fire stations, grounds and apparatus.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
  • When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 courses
  • Current CPR certification
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification (EVOC) Level II
  • Must possess and maintain Virginia Emergency Medical Technician- Intermediate or Paramedic Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (must be maintained)
  • Must obtain Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) or Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and Pediatric Education for the Pre-hospital Professional (PEPP) or department-approved equivalent within 12 months (must be maintained)
  • Graduation from high school or GED.

Additional Requirements

Possession of valid drivers license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and acceptable driving record according to the Citys Driving Criteria.

No DUI or drug related convictions, or VASAP attendance within 5 years of application for employment.

Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
