Bachelor's degree in a related field. No experience required. Experience in admissions, student recruitment, enrollment services, student affairs, sales, marketing, or a related area is preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Serves as an on-campus admissions counselor focused on the recruitment and enrollment of prospective transfer students. Guides students from initial inquiry through enrollment by providing individualized support, developing relationships with community colleges and transfer-serving partners, and implementing data-informed recruitment and communication strategies. Supports the University's enrollment goals by helping transfer students successfully navigate the admissions and enrollment process.
Primary Responsibilities
Develops and implements recruitment strategies focused on prospective transfer students. Recruits prospective transfer students through community college visits, transfer fairs, campus visits, classroom presentations, community events, individual appointments, and virtual outreach. Builds and maintains relationships with community college administrators, advisors, faculty, transfer centers, counselors, and other transfer-serving partners. Provides prospective students and families with information regarding admission requirements, application procedures, transcript requirements, transferable coursework, academic programs, scholarships, financial aid, orientation, housing, and student life. Reviews assigned undergraduate transfer applications and makes admission decisions in accordance with University policies and procedures. Communicates proactively with prospective and admitted transfer students through telephone calls, email, text messaging, presentations, and CRM communication campaigns. Conducts individual and group appointments to help transfer students understand admission requirements, enrollment steps, and available University resources. Maintains accurate records of student interactions, recruitment activities, and event outcomes within the University's CRM and other enrollment systems. Monitors transfer recruitment activity, application progression, enrollment funnel performance, and other key performance indicators. Assists with the planning and implementation of transfer recruitment and yield programs, including transfer information sessions, admitted student events, campus visit programs, Preview Days, Saturday@Sam, and other admissions events. Collaborates with academic colleges, advising, financial aid, orientation, registrar personnel, and other campus departments to support transfer student recruitment and enrollment. Supports broader University recruitment programs and admissions activities as needed. Represents Sam Houston State University professionally and provides responsive, student-centered service. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with prospective students, families, community college personnel, and University partners. Must possess strong organizational and time-management skills and be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment. The ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish is preferred.
The position requires regular travel to community colleges, transfer fairs, recruitment programs, and other events. Evening and weekend work may be required. Because driving is an essential function of the position, the selected candidate must possess a valid Texas driver's license and maintain a driving record acceptable to the University's insurance carrier. A driving record check will be conducted as part of the hiring process.
The position is based on the Huntsville campus and primarily supports the recruitment and enrollment of prospective transfer students. The incumbent may also assist with general admissions recruitment, campus programs, and coverage needs based on University priorities.
