Job Summary
The Office of Admissions is responsible for promoting the University and recruiting prospective students by providing comprehensive information about academic programs, admissions policies and procedures, the application process, and student support services to prospective students, parents, and school counselors. As a key driver of the Universitys enrollment strategy, the office is responsible for establishing and achieving undergraduate new student enrollment goals that support the Universitys overall enrollment objectives.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Works under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for achieving enrollment goals within the assigned geographical territory. This is accomplished by promoting the Universitys academic programs and engaging prospective students from high schools, technical schools, adult education and career training programs, and other colleges and universities through presentations, campus visits, and communication via phone, e-mail, text and social media.
Supports on-campus recruitment activities, including personal interviews, campus tours, open houses, Admitted Student Days, and New Student Orientation, and may represent the University at additional campus and community events as assigned.
Recruits prospective students to University programs by effectively managing assigned geographic territories, developing and maintaining recruitment and marketing materials, delivering presentations at high schools, college fairs, and community events, and conducting informational meetings and interviews.
Collects, analyzes, and interprets historical territory-specific data to determine funnel trends.
Formulates goals based on historical trends and high school graduation projections for targeted groups.
Develops and implements an individualized recruitment plan with measurable objectives, strategic outreach initiatives, and budget considerations to achieve enrollment goals.
Formulates and implements a comprehensive travel plan that includes college fairs, high school private visits and special programs as required.
Responds promptly to student and parent inquiries and connect prospective students and parents with other college resources including faculty, Campus Life, Athletics, Bursar, Financial Aid, and the Office of the Registrar.
Maintains a detailed knowledge of degree programs including requirements, curriculum, policies and procedures, student and faculty accomplishments, and general knowledge about IU and IU East.
Determines individual student admissibility by evaluating applicants¿ credentials, standardized test scores, transcripts, and letters of recommendation, while conducting honest and transparent conversations with prospective students about their enrollment opportunities.
Devises and implements a plan to increase the likelihood those prospects will enroll at IU East.
Advises denied applicants about the transferability of courses and other issues related to their transition to the University.
Helps coordinate recruitment activities such as: VIP Days, Admitted Student Day, High School Guidance Counselor Breakfast, and New Student Orientation. Participate in other campus events as needed (workshops, commencement, awards programs).
Conducts counseling interviews with admitted students and family members who visit campus to assess college performance.
Integrates services for special populations into programs within the department (returning adults, high school students, etc.).
Tailors private visits to meet individual needs for all visitors (sit in on classes, meet with coaches, visit Financial Aid, etc.).
Serves as University Ambassador for special programs sponsored by the Chancellors Office, Academic Affairs, Advancement, Student Affairs, The Office of Community Engagement and Workforce Development, The School of Business and Economics, Athletics and other areas as requested. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This position requires frequent in-state and out-of-state travel, as well as weekend work to support recruitment activities.
