Admission Counselor Help People Take the First Step Toward Recovery Arbor Place is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Admission Counselor to join our team. This role serves as one of the first points of contact for individuals seeking treatment for substance use and mental health challenges. The Admission Counselor completes assessments, coordinates admissions, facilitates groups, obtains insurance authorizations, and helps ensure clients are connected to the appropriate level of care. The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, and able to think critically while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Full-time, 40 hours per week Primarily Monday through Friday daytime hours Participation in a rotating Saturday group schedule Participation in an on-call rotation
Key Responsibilities Admissions & Assessments
Respond to referral and service calls with professionalism and compassion Complete administrative intakes and admission paperwork Conduct ASAM assessments and other required screenings Recommend appropriate levels of care based on assessment findings Coordinate treatment admissions and client placement
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation Ensure admission requirements are completed according to DHS, organizational, and insurance standards Gather and organize information needed to support admissions and treatment recommendations
Group Facilitation
Facilitate group sessions as assigned Assist with treatment group scheduling Coordinate and maintain the rotating Saturday group schedule
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate assessment findings and admission information with treatment teams Collaborate with residential, outpatient, billing, and administrative staff Serve as a liaison between clients, families, referral sources, and Arbor Place programs
Insurance Authorization
Work with the billing department to obtain insurance authorizations Assist with Medicaid and commercial insurance requirements Ensure documentation supports authorization requests
Qualifications
Active SAC-IT, SAC, CSAC, or other qualifying Wisconsin substance use credential required Associates or Bachelors degree in a behavioral health-related field Experience completing assessments, intakes, or working within a substance use treatment setting preferred Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems Valid drivers license Ability to pass the Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check
