Job Summary
The Senior Accounting Assistant reports to the Controller and is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the business office in various tasks. This role involves processing invoices, processing payments, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with College policies and procedures. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform daily transactions within Business Office, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger and bank reconciliations.
- Generate purchase orders through the purchase requisition system, disseminating as required;
- Process student refund checks;
- Post student batches to the general ledger daily
- Record ACH payments;
- Remotely deposit checks and prepare cash deposits;
- Reconcile all clearing and payables accounts monthly
- Record other payments as necessary;
- Review and record monthly gas card transactions;
- Maintain all institutional purchase-card transactions
- Record monthly department chargebacks;
- Maintain accurate and complete vendor records;
- Train new employees on the purchase requisition system;
- Enter journal entries as required;
- Sort and distribute office mail;
- Maintain and place orders for business office supplies;
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned;
- Perform all duties with the strictest of confidence.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Minimum 2 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for external and internal customers.
- Strong computer proficiency, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word
- Positive and pro-active team attitude
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications & Special Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, or a related field.
- Knowledge of accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures
- Ability to work with a team or independently
