Help

As a Administrative Support Assistant (Wildland Fire) your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs administrative support work related to recurring and moderately complex fire program financial transactions.
  • Reviews, inputs, and updates data in automated financial and accounting systems and assists in tracking fire funding allocations and expenditures.
  • Reviews acquisition requests for completeness, accuracy of accounting information, and compliance with applicable regulations prior to submission.
  • Prepares and verifies fire employee time and attendance data in automated payroll systems.
  • Prepares travel authorizations and vouchers for fire program employees using automated travel systems.
  • Provides clerical support for personnel actions related to hiring, onboarding, and separation of temporary and seasonal fire employees.

In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification requirements listed below.

Minimum Qualification

To qualify for the GS-06 grade level, 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 is required. Examples of work experience include, but are not limited to: performing administrative duties in an office such as preparing reports, spreadsheets, databases, manuals, and other documents using office computer software applications; managing records and maintaining a filing system; managing time and attendance in an automated payroll system; and assisting employees with travel arrangements.

To qualify for the GS-07 grade level, 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 is required. Examples of work experience include, but are not limited to: performing administrative duties in an office such as independently preparing reports, spreadsheets, databases, manuals, and other documents using office computer software applications; managing records and maintaining a filing system; managing time and attendance in an automated payroll system; assisting employees with travel arrangements; and experience with developing and formulating budget for multiple accounts.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The work is typically sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, or bending. The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and/or carry file folders, copied materials, books, and other similar materials. Assignments may require travel to field areas and other centers and offices.

Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment, with some visits to other locations as a participant in various meetings, workshops, and training courses. The U.S. Wildland Fire Service (USWFS), an organization within the Department of the Interior (DOI), responds to wildfires and promotes fire-resilient landscapes across more than 500 million acres of public and tribal lands nationwide. The USWFS has full program authority and coordinates the DOI wildland fire management program in its entirety.
