This position is located at SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 525 Layfette Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.

Under direct supervision, you will perform a variety of routine administrative duties / clinical support with a moderate level of individual and patient accountability in the Georgetown Front Office for Waccamaw Center for Mental Health. You will be applying written or unwritten policies to perform various task: that have a significant impact on the daily operations of the Georgetown Office.

Responsibilities for this Administrative Specialist II:

  • Primarily responsible for processing intakes, opening and discharging patient cases. This includes data entry into the Avatar system.

  • Responsible for checking the status of patient insurance eligibility (Medicaid, Medicare, Private, etc.). on a daily basis prior to appointment and accurately inputting all changes into Avatar.

  • Responsible for updating all patient demographic in charts and ensuring transfer of information into Avatar. Scan all patient information into Avatar. Responsible for updating the intake log for new and readmitted patients and updating all consents in Avatar. Address concerns with patients about insurance and other billing concerns.

  • Maintain charts and documentation in accordance with State, Federal, local, BHDD-OMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF standards.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A high school diploma and two (2) years of clerical experience; or an associate degree in secretarial science or other related field; or three (3) years of clerical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

  • Have general knowledge of office practices and use of office equipment along with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously.

  • Be flexible, cooperative, have the ability to perform multiple tasks and manage time in a proficient and effective manner in the course of carrying out day to day duties.

  • Have good use of judgement and discretion.

  • Be able to pass Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.
