Patient Access Representative – Day Shift

Location: Peterborough, NH
Schedule: Day Shift

Position Summary

The Patient Access Representative supports patient registration and centralized scheduling for hospital services. Responsibilities include scheduling appointments, verifying demographic and insurance information, obtaining authorizations, completing admission and discharge functions, and registering patients for Emergency Department and outpatient services. This position requires excellent customer service and close collaboration with patients, physician practices, and hospital departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and provide professional, compassionate customer service.
  • Collect and accurately enter demographic, insurance, and financial information.
  • Complete registrations for outpatient services, surgical procedures, inpatient admissions, and Emergency Department visits.
  • Register patients for services such as laboratory, radiology, oncology, cardiology, wound care, occupational health, and pulmonary testing.
  • Schedule laboratory, X-ray, and other ancillary services.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
  • Obtain required authorizations for outpatient services, surgeries, and inpatient admissions within established timeframes.
  • Explain and obtain required patient and hospital forms, including consent-for-treatment and other legal documents.
  • Coordinate with patients, physician offices, and hospital departments to support timely care.
  • Document provider correspondence using hospital and physician computer systems.
  • Answer and return patient calls using professional telephone etiquette.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
  • Review applicable credit and collection information.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Perform essential responsibilities in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department.
  • Share information and work cooperatively with team members.
  • Assist with training new employees as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of current policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience in patient access, medical registration, healthcare scheduling, customer service, or a related administrative role is preferred.
  • Familiarity with insurance verification and authorization processes is helpful.
  • Comfortable learning and using hospital computer systems, electronic databases, and insurance websites.
  • Strong attention to detail and data-entry accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and telephone skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Flexibility to work across multiple Patient Access areas, including the Emergency Department.
