    SUMMARY:

    • Utilizes the principles of management, philosophies, policies and goals of the institution and nursing department to ensure consistent, high quality patient care. 
    • Assumes administrative responsibility to maintain smooth, efficient hospital functions. 
    • Utilizes the principles of the nursing process to provide for continuity and quality of nursing care administered to a specific group of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult or geriatric patients. 
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to the age of the patient served on the nursing unit or by patient care departments. 

     

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS 

    Education:

    • Requires basic knowledge of nursing. 
    • Graduate from accredited nursing program. 
      • Preferred BA, BS or BBA with a major in nursing, health care administration, business administration, or psychology.

    Experience:

      • A minimum of five years of experience in Staff Nurse with Charge Nurse or Assistant Nursing Manager role to acquire skills and knowledge of the job is preferred. 

    License:

      • Current New York State R.N. license. 
      • BLS required

     

    PHYSICAL & MENTAL FACTORS

    Physical: Requires prolonged standing, walking, or other constant physical movements on a routine basis and frequent lifting of moderately heavy items, i.e., 20-40 lbs. 

    Mental: Nature of work frequently requires considerable or heavy workload, highly irregular, and unpredictable long hours, placing heavy demands on home and/or social life; and there may be considerable work pressures requiring delicate or potentially serious matters. 

     

    ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    Occasional exposure to occupational hazards or contagious disease which requires routine precautions. 

    Working Conditions:

    Manual: Little or no manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

    Occupational: Little or no potential for occupational risk

    Physical Effort: Sedentary/light effort. May exert up to 10 lbs. force

    Physical Environment: Generally pleasant working conditions
