Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling, Counselor Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Professional counseling experience appropriate to the courses assigned.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of counseling theory, assessment, ethics, multicultural counseling, and clinical mental health practice.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively teach and mentor graduate students.
  • Commitment to ethical, culturally responsive, and student-centered counselor education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level in a counselor education or clinical mental health counseling program.
  • Experience with online, hybrid, or technology-enhanced instruction.
  • Professional counseling licensure, such as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or equivalent, when appropriate to the position.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision and/or training counseling students.
  • Familiarity with CACREP standards, professional counseling competencies, and current counselor education practices.
  • Active involvement in professional counseling organizations and/or continuing professional development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and integrating multicultural and social justice perspectives into counseling education.

Primary Responsibilities

Position Summary

Sul Ross State University invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation of graduate students for professional practice in clinical mental health counseling through high-quality instruction, mentorship, and engagement with the counseling profession.

The adjunct faculty member will teach assigned graduate-level courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, provide students with meaningful learning experiences that integrate counseling theory, research, ethics, and clinical practice, and support the academic and professional development of students preparing for careers as licensed professional counselors.

This is a fully virtual program, and courses are taught as such.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned graduate-level courses in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in accordance with approved course objectives, curriculum, and university policies.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction that integrates current counseling theories, evidence-based practices, professional ethics, multicultural considerations, and clinical applications.
  • Develop and/or utilize course materials, syllabi, assessments, learning activities, and instructional resources appropriate for graduate counseling education.
  • Evaluate student learning through assignments, examinations, discussions, projects, and other appropriate assessment methods.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and maintain accurate student records and grades.
  • Support students' development of professional counseling knowledge, skills, ethical decision-making, and professional identity.
  • Incorporate culturally responsive and inclusive practices into teaching and learning.
  • Remain current in developments in the counseling profession, including professional standards, ethical requirements, research, and emerging clinical practices.
  • Utilize appropriate instructional technologies and learning-management systems for online and/or hybrid instruction.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and program leadership.
  • Participate in program, departmental, or university activities when requested and appropriate to the adjunct appointment.
  • Maintain compliance with university policies, professional ethical standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Employment Conditions

Adjunct appointments are part-time and are contingent upon course availability, enrollment, programmatic needs, and applicable university policies. Compensation, workload, appointment duration, and teaching modality will be determined in accordance with Sul Ross State University policies and the terms of the individual appointment.

The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.
