Position Summary
This is a Part-Time Faculty Pool for available assignments during the academic year.
The AC-TDCJ Program offers a variety of academic and technical correctional education programs to TDCJ offenders. This is an instructional position within a correctional environment teaching an all-male offender population. Offenders are required to meet academic and security requirements for enrollment consideration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach freshman- and sophomore-level Mental Health courses within assigned TDCJ facilities.
- Prepare course syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments in accordance with College standards.
- Deliver engaging instruction using appropriate teaching methods and educational resources.
- Assess student learning, provide timely feedback, and maintain required academic records and reports.
- Advise and support students regarding academic progress and connect them with appropriate resources.
- Utilize available technology to support instruction, communication, recordkeeping, and reporting.
- Participate in curriculum and program assessment, student retention efforts, institutional meetings, and professional development.
- Complete required 7 hour TDCJ Pre-Service and annual In-Service security training and comply with applicable facility requirements.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, College administration, and TDCJ personnel.
- Adhere to College policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Human Services area (Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Addictions Counseling, or Mental Health) with current licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licenses Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and 3 years non-teaching work experience in the field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- College level teaching experience
- Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system
- Bilingual English/Spanish
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills.
- Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.
- Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system.
- Candidates must pass a criminal background check by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ)

The Faculty Member agrees to comply with all policies, procedures, and security regulations of the TDCJ while performing instructional duties within TDCJ facilities. If officials of the TDCJ exercise their contractual right to deny the Faculty Member access to the assigned unit, the Employer may terminate the Faculty Member's employment and cease salary payments effective immediately.
