Adjunct Instructors, Fort Dodge Center Salary $716.00 Monthly Location Fort Dodge, IA Job Type Adjunct Job Number ADJFD2026 Department Instruction Opening Date 04/09/2026 FLSA Non-Exempt Description Benefits Questions Description Summary Iowa Central Community College is seeking candidates interested in teaching as a part-time instructor (adjunct faculty) in all academic departments: Communications, Math, Science, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Career and Technical Education. The College is looking for instructors who bring engaging and effective learning strategies to the classes for in-person day and possibly evening classes. These positions are contracted for a semester with pay on a per credit hour basis plus pay for an office hour per week per section. Annual professional development goals and activities are required. Persons in this position must receive instruction in dealing with bloodborne pathogens, mandatory reporting, and freedom of speech. Availability of adjunct faculty positions is based on enrollment in courses offered at all Iowa Central Community College sites. Applicants will be added to our "pool" of adjunct faculty, with credentials kept on file for two years. A Masters degree is required for transfer subject areas, with 12 graduate hours in the subject area. Technical training, work experience, and other qualifications are considered for Career and Technical Education. Teaching or training experience is preferred. Course descriptions of the classes are available in our online catalog. Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service. The College does not provide sponsorship for authorization to work in the United States. Work authorization should be established at the time of application submission. QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in the field or a closely related field is required for transfer classes. Minimum of 12 graduate hours in the subject area is required if Master's degree is not in the field. Three years of teaching experience is preferred. 6,000 hours of work experience, technical degrees, and other certifications are approved for Career and Technical Education courses. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES/STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE Instructional Effectively organizes and teaches course work in accordance with established and/or developed syllabi. Demonstrates current knowledge of the subject matter being taught by presentations, activities, questions, and responses relevant to the course syllabus. Uses class time to encourage active student involvement in the learning process. Assesses the overall student learning in the class by using multiple classroom assessment techniques, documents the assessment, and uses the assessment data for instructional improvement. Monitors and provides frequent and specific feedback to students regarding the attainment of the learning outcomes and their progress in the course. Consistently displays evidence of organization and planning, including materials being available and the instructional sequence progressing logically. Uses a variety of materials and resources which enhance the teaching of the course objectives. Make use of a variety of teaching techniques and technologies appropriate for the course taught. Develops and utilizes teaching strategies based upon current research. Student Rapport Treats all students with respect and modifies instruction to meet their academic needs. Communicates with students in a positive, impartial manner. Exercises good judgement in dealing with classroom problems and assumes responsibility for those actions. Maintains confidentiality of student information. Professional Development Annually engages in professional development activities and seeks information about academic trends and ideas relating to teaching. Department Related Contributes to the achievements of department mission, goals/objectives, and responsibilities. Prepares, distributes, and submits first day handouts for all sections assigned to the adjunct faculty member in accordance with Department and College policies. Encourages regular attendance and retention of students, including personally contacting students following absences to offer assistance and concern for their welfare. Meets scheduled classes in accordance with College policy, beginning and ending class sessions according to published schedules. Maintains scheduled office hours to ensure accessibility to students and colleagues. Maintains adequate and accurate records on class adjunct faculty attendance and student grades. These records are submitted by the member according to College policy and established deadlines. College Related Openly supports and promotes the vision/mission of the College and works to achieve the vision/mission of the College. Exercises stewardship of College facilities, equipment, and materials, including properly using College facilities, equipment, and materials, reporting needed repairs, and supervising students regarding use of facilities and equipment. Demonstrates an effort to maintain a good relationship with all other employees of the College. Communicates consistently with students and staff using means established by the College, including email and voicemail. Attends meetings if required by the College.
