Position Overview
The Division seeks a qualified adjunct instructor to teach two sections of a Statistics Lab course aligned with articulation agreement requirements. The lab component supports a lecture course (taught separately) and focuses on applied statistical analysis using SPSS.
This role requires a high level of independence, technical troubleshooting ability, and course design expertise to support a diverse and geographically distributed student population.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Support
Teach two asynchronous online lab sections focused on applied statistical analysis using SPSS
Guide students through execution of statistical techniques including:
Descriptive statistics (frequencies, central tendency, variability)
Z-scores
Single sample, dependent, and independent t-tests
ANOVA (simple and factorial)
Correlation (Pearson's r and Spearman's rho)
Non-parametric tests (including Chi-Square)
Support students in completing SPSS-based analyses and APA-style lab reports
Provide individualized support to a diverse student population, including remote and international learners
Course Design & Development
Design and maintain an asynchronous lab environment aligned with course learning outcomes
Develop comprehensive instructional materials, including:
Step-by-step SPSS tutorials
Dozens of captioned video demonstrations with transcripts
Ensure all course materials meet accessibility guidelines and Regular Substantive Interaction (RSI) requirements
Select an appropriate textbook aligned with SPSS version 27 or newer
Technical & Administrative Responsibilities
Independently manage all SPSS-related technical support, including:
Coordinating with IT to obtain software installation codes
Assisting students with installation on personal devices
Troubleshooting issues directly with the software vendor (via email support)
Coordinate access solutions for students without compatible devices:
Facilitate participation in the institution's laptop loaner program
Adapt course materials to the SPSS version available at the start of each semester
Complete all grading on-campus using institutionally available SPSS access (or maintain a personal license if preferred)
Maintain flexibility to support students across different institutions and time zones
