Job Title Adjunct Instructor Pool - Teacher Candidate Supervisor Position Summary

The highly-sought-after position of university supervisor requires professional expertise in the K-12 educational arena. This position is responsible for supervising the field component of clinical teaching/internship and submitting all documents required for state certification of teacher candidates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Among the many duties that encompass the supervisory role, university supervisors serve as:

  • Communicators for the Director of Field Experience (such as the distribution of handbooks, documents and other important information).
  • Role models.
  • Guides to direct the clinical teacher/intern through the weeks of clinical teaching/internship.
  • Ensure clinical teachers/interns complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Informal and formal evaluators praising and critiquing instructional and classroom management activities through timely-submitted evaluation instruments.
  • Documentation during the clinical teaching semester/internship year.
  • Liaison between Texas Wesleyan University School of Education and the K-12 school community.
  • Negotiators in minor conflict resolution between clinical teachers/interns and any school personnel.
  • Nominators for outstanding clinical teachers/interns.
  • References for clinical teachers/interns upon completion of clinical teaching/internship.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

  • Master's Degree.
  • Current teaching certification.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years classroom experience at the level and content of the clinical teacher/intern being supervised;
  • Experience evaluating classroom teachers using the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) or with an alternative, approved evaluation method.
  • Training at the university level as a mentor.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge and skill in evaluating classroom teachers using the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) or with an alternative, approved evaluation method.
  • Ability to work effectively with other University personnel.
  • Ability to provide service to both the University and the community.
  • Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations and laws related to student records.
  • Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations, FERPA related laws, and laws related to student records and confidentiality.
  • Ability to demonstrate a cooperative attitude while working with a diverse student population.
  • Possession of good leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal, spoken and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to current and prospective students and University employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
