    Adjunct Faculty – Medical Assistant

    Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Medical Assistant within the Nursing and Allied Health Division. This is a part-time position.

     

    The Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting instructional and programmatic activities as assigned while fostering a positive and collegial learning environment. Part-time employees are expected to uphold the College’s mission, vision, and values, and to comply with the Faculty Handbook and all applicable college policies and procedures.

     

    This position reports directly to the Department Chair within the Nursing and Allied Health Division.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities: 

    40% Teaching

    • Prepares, provides and coordinates learning experiences in accordance with learning objectives and students' needs and abilities.

     

    35% Teaching and preparations:

    • Utilizes resources including lab to help students to learn.
    • Assesses student learning in accordance with college and department policy. Maintains a minimum of 10 office hours per week.
    • Meets all scheduled classes within the appropriate timeframe
    • Advises students and assist with registration, orientation, and recruitment as needed 
    • Submits syllabi, office hours, grades, attendance electronic timesheets, and other reports by established deadlines.

     

    10% Administrative

    • Notifies program director/manager of absence with course substitution plan in a timely manor
    • Attends all departmental, division, and general facility meetings
    • Attends convocations and participate in graduation exercise (attired in appropriate academic regalia)
    • Adheres to professional standards of conduct
    • Participates in the facility evaluation process

     

    10% Service

    • Contributes to the college and discipline by collaborating with others your service to the college
    • Engages in continual professional development activities as it relates to pedagogy, assessment, and facility area expertise

     

    Required Education: 

    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Registered Nurse (RN).

     

    Required Experience:

    • A minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical experience in a healthcare setting.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of medical assisting theory and practice, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, laboratory procedures, EKG, phlebotomy, medical office administration, healthcare regulations, and patient care standards.

     

    • Skills: Ability to provide classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction; demonstrate and evaluate medical assisting competencies; develop and implement curriculum; utilize instructional technology; maintain accurate student records; communicate effectively with students, faculty, healthcare partners, and accrediting agencies; and foster a positive learning environment that promotes student success.

     

    • Abilities: Ability to supervise students in clinical and laboratory settings, evaluate student performance, maintain professional standards, and prepare students for national certification examinations and employment in healthcare settings.

     

    Required Licenses or Certifications: 

    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)

     

    Preferred Education:

    • Certified Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse

     

    Preferred Experience:

    • Teaching or Clinical instruction experience
