The Alliant MSW Program seeks experienced mission-driven adjunct faculty to teach both generalist and specialized clinical social work courses in a fully online environment. Adjunct faculty support the development of skilled ethical and culturally responsive practitioners through high-engagement teaching aligned with CSWE EPAS standards.

We welcome applications from clinicians, supervisors, researchers, and educators committed to trauma-informed, diversity-centered, and applied social work education. Adjunct professors are in the following programs and courses:

Specific Courses • SWK60050 - Foundation of Social Work Practice Engagement interviewing, values, ethics, foundational generalist skills. • SWK60055 - Foundation of Social Work Practice II Assessment, intervention planning, documentation, culturally responsive practice. • SWK60060 - Foundation of Social Work Research Research literacy, program evaluation, ethical inquiry, evidence-informed practice. • SWK60070 - Seminar and Practicum I Competency development through field placement, integration of theory and practice.

Advanced Specialized Practice Year 2 Courses • SWK70010 - Assessment and Diagnosis of Mental Health Conditions DSM-5-TR application, differential diagnosis, biopsychosocial assessment, and culturally grounded clinical formulation. • SWK70050 - Advanced Social Work Practice III Specialized clinical interventions, advanced engagement strategies, and complex case conceptualization. • SWK70055 - Advanced Social Work Practice IV Advanced treatment planning, trauma-informed modalities, and evidence-based intervention models. • SWK70060 - Advanced Social Work Research Applied research design, evaluation of clinical outcomes, and integration of research in advanced practice settings. • SWK70070 - Seminar and Practicum II Competency development in specialized placements, clinical supervision, ethics, and reflective practice. • SWK70075 - Seminar and Practicum III Advanced clinical practicum, licensure preparation, professional identity, and transition to independent practice.

Position Summary

Adjunct Faculty are scholars and professionals who teach in their areas of specialization and expertise. The primary affiliation of adjunct faculty is not with the university.

Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching & Instruction • Deliver high-quality online instruction using both synchronous and asynchronous tools. • Foster an inclusive, respectful learning environment grounded in CSWE competencies. • Facilitate discussions, case studies, simulations, and applied skill-building activities. • Provide timely, meaningful feedback on student work.

Student Support • Mentor and support students academic and professional development. • Identify students needing additional support and communicate with the Program Director or Field Education team as appropriate. • Uphold trauma-informed and culturally humble teaching practices.

Program Collaboration • Attend mandatory faculty onboarding and periodic meetings. • Follow program policies, assessment deadlines, and grading expectations. • Contribute to continuous program improvement and accreditation processes when requested.

Skills

• Proficient computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to problem solve. • Ability to explain complex requirements in clear and concise terms. • Ability to be flexible with workflow to meet the needs of the department and students, and to manage multiple tasks per required deadlines. • Drive to encourage, hold accountable, and guide candidates toward task completion. • Ability to work as an effective team member and develop trusting relationships with students and Alliant employees, as well as the Registrars Office and various academic departments. • Culturally humble and ability to communicate and interact effectively with diverse people. • Highly motivated, focused, and results-oriented. • Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal interactions and to maintain confidentiality. • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments.

Minimum Requirements

• MSW from a CSWE-accredited program required. • Active clinical license (LCSW, LISW, LICSW, etc.) for practice-based or supervision courses. • 2-5 years post-MSW experience ideally in behavioral health, clinical practice, community mental health, or applied social work settings. • Demonstrated teaching, supervision, or training experience. • Commitment to social justice, culturally responsive practice, and trauma-informed care.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in social work or related field. • Experience supervising MSW interns or overseeing field instruction. • Familiarity with online learning management systems (Canvas preferred). • Knowledge of CSWE EPAS competency-based education.

Supervisory Responsibility

• Direct Reports: Possible student teaching assistant. • Indirect Reports: None.

Work Hours Courses are offered across multiple academic terms year-round. Adjunct faculty may teach 1-3 courses per year depending on availability and program needs.
