    Job Title: Adjunct Faculty in Japanese

    Anticipated Start Date: Spring Semester 2027 - classes begin February 8, 2027

    Estimated Pay: This is a temporary, part-time, non-benefited position. Rate of pay is based on level of education:https://www.udel.edu/faculty-staff/human-resources/payroll/resources/suppay/2026spring/

    Schedule: up to 10 course credits per semester

    Location: Newark, Delaware campus

    The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE, seeks a dynamic and innovative instructor to teach Japanese culture and language courses as needed starting in Spring 2027. Culture classes may cover film, literature, manga, anime, videogames or a range of these; language classes may be at any level from elementary through to advanced, depending on needs of the program. In-person instruction is preferred, but online instruction will also be considered.

    Qualifications and Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will have an MA or PhD in Japanese Language, Literature, Linguistics, or Culture, and should have native or near-native fluency in both Japanese and English. Experience teaching college-level Japanese language and culture courses in the US is highly desired; authorization to work in the US is required.

    The core responsibilities of this position include teaching Japanese language and culture classes as needed by the department and contributing to the

    • development of the Japanese program. Candidates should be:
    • committed to high-quality instruction in a collaborative, communicative-based learning environment;
    • able to work with a wide range of students and learning styles;
    • willing to collaborate with colleagues to advance student outcomes; and
    • experienced with using technology to foster student learning.

    The instructor is also expected to hold one hour of student office hours per course per week.
