Job Title: Adjunct Faculty in English Department ENGLISH Position Number: PT0110

Job Description

The English Department at Old Dominion University invites applicants for part-time Adjunct instructional faculty to teach 100- and 200- level sections of in-person General Education Composition and Literature courses. We are currently seeking individuals; this post may remain open for additional applications as opportunities arise. Those selected will be hired as part of an adjunct pool which will be utilized as needed based on which courses are in need of coverage. We tend to have the greatest need for instructors who can teach daytime on-campus courses between 800 AM and 300 PM most often in General Education Composition but sometimes also in General Education Literature.

Minimum Required Education and/or Special Licenses, Registrations, Trainings, or Certifications M.A. M.F.A. or Ph.D. in English or M.A. or Ph.D. in closely-related field with a minimum of 18 hours graduate credit hours in English courses.

Minimum Required Level and Type of Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience with Microsoft Office. Preparation and/or experience teaching introductory-level courses in literature and/or composition at the college level.

Preferred Qualifications Availability to teach in-person on Old Dominion Universitys Norfolk, VA campus between the hours of 800 AM and 300 PM AND one or more of the following: • For Literature: ability to teach across genre and period specialties and to include a diverse selection of texts and voices. • For Composition: expertise and experience in writing studies pedagogies such as WACWID, multi-modality, anti-racism, and/or universal design for learning.
