The College of Arts & Sciences at Shawnee State University, and the Department of Fine, Digital & Performing Art, seek a qualified individual beginning Fall 2026 to provide as Part-time Faculty (Adjunct) in the following area:

  • Introduction to Art -
  • An introductory course in art history and art appreciation in the visual arts, fulfilling a portion of the Arts and Humanities requirement of the General Education Program

This is an in-person course at the (language that denotes the Adena Chillicothe campus).

The Department of Fine, Digital, and Performing Arts at Shawnee State is an incubator for creativity.

Majors, Minors, and GEP courses in the arts enable students to cultivate and expand their skills across several arts disciplines. The department faculty

value technical skill, aesthetic dialogue, professionalism, open individual expression, and reasoned critique.

Candidates invited for an on-campus interview may be required to deliver a teaching lecture and a laboratory demonstration to demonstrate their instructional abilities. Adjunct faculty at SSU are also eligible for tuition waivers (Tuition Waiver for Adjunct Faculty Policy) and enjoy professional development opportunities, office space, and limited mileage reimbursement. They and their family (children 14 years and up) also have free access to the Rhodes Athletic Facility. Employment with the University is dependent upon BOT budget approval for the current fiscal year. A background check is required prior to hire.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE)

  • Master's Degree in the subject or closely related area
  • A willingness to engage students thoughtfully and critically in the subject area
  • Ability to communicate clearly to students
  • Basic knowledge of instructional software and ability to teach online courses
  • Ability to work closely and effectively with diverse populations in all aspects

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

  • Knowledge of different pedagogical strategies
  • Prior teaching experience both in person and online
  • MFA or PhD in the area being taught or closely related area
