Job Description:
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face to face, remote, and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 8 credit hours during summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
Must reside in the (DC, VA, MD) DMV area.
Duties and Tasks:
- This position requires the incumbent to teach courses focused on the development and education of children ages birth to age 8.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
Essential Functions:
As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
KSAs:
- Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate the diversity of community college students.
- Ability to use formative and summative assessment measure to enhance student learning.
- Experience with or ability to utilize proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Ability to use or incorporate emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods to enhance classroom instruction.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.
- Available to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in early childhood or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours of coursework in early childhood education. Qualifying academic degrees and coursework must be awarded by and/or completed with a regionally accredited institution.
- A minimum of two years of full-time college level teaching experience in the teaching field and/or related occupational experience. Part-time occupational experience will be converted to its full-time equivalent.
- At least 3 years of teaching experience in an early childhood setting (Birth to age 8)
