    Description

    The Role: The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher (APE) Teacher provides specifically designed physical education instruction to students with disabilities whose needs cannot be appropriately met through the general physical education program. The APE teacher develops and implements individualized physical education programs that promote motor development, physical fitness, movement skills, social interaction, and lifelong participation in physical activity. Essential Responsibilities:

    • Assess students'' motor skills, physical abilities. and functional performance to determine eligibility for adaptive physical education services.
    • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized adaptive physical education goals and objectives aligned with students'' IEPs.
    • Provide direct instruction in individual and small-group settings using evidence-based instructional strategies.
    • Collaborate with general physical education teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and families to support student participation and inclusion.
    • Participate as a member of the IEP Team, including conducting evaluations, preparing reports, and documenting student progress.
    • Modify equipment, activities, and environments to ensure safe and meaningful participation in physical education and school-based physical activities.
    • Maintain accurate records, progress monitoring data, and required documentation in accordance with federal, state, and district requirements.
    • Ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student independence and physical well-being.
    • Perform otherer duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services or building administrator.

    Qualifications:

    • Massachusetts licensure as a Physical Education Teacher PreK-8 and 5-12 or eligibility for appropriate licensure.
    • Bachelor''s degree required; Master''s degree preferred.
    • Strong collaboration, communication and organizational skills.
    • Experience working with students with a wide range of disabilities is preferred.
