We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Teacher to provide specialized physical education services to elementary school students with diverse learning and physical needs. This rewarding position offers the opportunity to help young learners develop motor skills, physical fitness, social interaction, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for movement and wellness.
Position Summary
The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher works with elementary-aged students who require individualized or adapted physical education instruction as part of their educational programming. The teacher will design and implement engaging lessons that support students' physical, social, emotional, and developmental growth while ensuring meaningful participation in physical activity.
Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized adaptive physical education programs for elementary students.

  • Conduct assessments and evaluate students' gross motor skills, physical abilities, and participation needs.

  • Support student achievement of IEP goals related to physical education and motor development.

  • Adapt activities, equipment, and environments to meet the unique needs of each student.

  • Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment where all students can succeed.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, occupational therapists, physical therapists, administrators, and families.

  • Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and documentation.

  • Attend and contribute to IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions.

  • Encourage healthy habits, physical fitness, teamwork, and self-confidence in young learners.
QualificationsRequired

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education, Special Education, or related field.

  • Current Minnesota teaching license or ability to obtain appropriate licensure.

  • Experience working with children, preferably in an elementary school setting.

  • Knowledge of special education services, IEP development, and adaptive physical education practices.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred

  • Minnesota Adaptive Physical Education (APE) licensure or endorsement.

  • Previous experience serving students with disabilities in a school environment.

  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
