Sonoma Post Acute is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and creative Activities Director to lead our resident activities and enrichment program. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about improving the quality of life for seniors through engaging activities, social interaction, community involvement, and individualized programming.

As the Activities Director, you will develop and oversee a comprehensive activity program that promotes residents' physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual well-being while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Position Summary

The Activities Director is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating an ongoing program of recreational, social, educational, and therapeutic activities designed to meet the interests and needs of residents. This position works closely with residents, families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to enhance resident engagement and overall quality of life.

Essential Responsibilities

Program Development & Management

• Plan, organize, and direct daily activity programs for residents.
• Develop monthly activity calendars that provide a variety of engaging and meaningful events.
• Create programs that address residents' physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual needs.
• Coordinate group activities, special events, entertainment, holiday celebrations, and community outings.
• Evaluate resident participation and modify programs based on resident interests and abilities.

Resident Engagement

• Conduct resident assessments to identify interests, hobbies, preferences, and activity needs.
• Encourage participation and foster positive relationships with residents and families.
• Provide one-on-one visits and individualized activities for residents unable to attend group programs.
• Promote resident independence, dignity, and quality of life.

Leadership & Coordination

• Recruit, train, supervise, and support activity staff and volunteers.
• Coordinate with department leaders to enhance resident programming.
• Collaborate with nursing, therapy, social services, and dietary teams to support resident-centered care.
• Assist with resident council meetings and family engagement initiatives.

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete activity assessments, care plans, progress notes, and required documentation.
• Ensure compliance with state, federal, and facility regulations.
• Maintain accurate records related to resident participation and program effectiveness.
• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in activities, recreation, senior living, healthcare, skilled nursing, assisted living, or a related field.
• Strong organizational and event-planning skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to lead group activities and engage diverse resident populations.
• Compassionate, energetic, and creative approach to resident programming.

Preferred

• Activities Director Certification (ADC), Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), or related credentials.
• Experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) or Post-Acute setting.
• Experience supervising staff or volunteers.
• Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to activity programming.
