    Strategy Tutor Job Description

    Purpose:

    Strategy Tutors for the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes serve a very important role in our students’ learning processes. Strategy tutors engage students in developing and implementing strategies to enhance their learning and successfully manage course objectives and tasks. Strategy tutors are committed to ensuring the continued growth and academic development of our Student-Athletes. Their ultimate purpose is to facilitate learning and assist students in becoming independent self-sufficient learners.

      Session Objectives:

    • Strategy tutors are expected to model and facilitate appropriate and effective academic strategies and behaviors.  They are not disciplinarians.
    • Strategy tutors are expected to enhance students’ academic and transitional skills in as many classes as feasibly possible. They are not content tutors and are not expected to cover specific class material as they may have limited background knowledge in certain subject areas. They can only cover specific content when instructed to do so by a Learning Specialist.
    • Strategy tutors are expected to use their best judgment to prioritize their sessions with students based on student needs, upcoming assignments, exams, and house-keeping tasks (checking e-mail, scheduling tests, etc). They are not expected to cover everything in any given session and are not responsible for missed assignments or unscheduled exams.

    Session Breakdown:

    • Update and planning (15 min.)
    • Teaching the student (30 min.)
    • Recap (5 min.)
