    Description

    As an ACL Firewall Engineer, you know how to leverage advanced firewall technologies and security principles to develop secure, compliant network environments. You will use your experience with Access Control Lists (ACLs), firewall policy design, and network segmentation to support VA business operations and protect PHI, PII, and VA Sensitive data. You'll collaborate with crossfunctional IT teams to structure, implement, and maintain ACL configurations across VA networks. You'll apply your knowledge of network protocols, threat mitigation, and federal security standards to enhance the organization's security posture. You'll be a trusted advisor to your stakeholders as you translate security requirements and future needs into compliant architectures, design patterns, and bestpractice implementations.

    You Have:
    Experience designing, implementing, and managing firewall Access Control Lists to ensure VA network security and compliance
    Experience reviewing ACLs and firewall policies to protect networks against unauthorized access and cyber threats
    Experience developing firewall policies and procedures aligned with VA and federal security standards
    Experience collaborating with network engineers, system administrators, and security personnel to build and update ACL configurations for new and existing network segments
    Experience conducting ACL audits to assess compliance with security requirements
    Experience assisting in incident response and remediation for firewall-related security events
    Experience providing technical documentation, training, and support on ACL management
    Knowledge of identity-related integrations that influence firewall policy design (e.g., SAML, Active Directory, or LDAP)
    Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to define network security requirements
    Ability to stay current with emerging firewall technologies, threats, and best practices in network security.
    Experience developing structured documentation or workflows for ACL and firewall management
    Experience applying security architecture concepts, diagrams, and modeling techniques to firewall solutions
    Bachelor's degree in CS or Electronics Engineering and 10+ years of experience in information technology or 18+ years of experience in information technology in lieu of a degree

    Additional Nice to Have:
    Experience integrating open-source or emerging security tools into firewall environments
    Experience supporting firewall technologies within DevOps or automated deployment pipelines
    Experience working with the VA
